You want me to buy half a game?

September 15, 2017

The gaming industry has taken a huge turn in recent years but not for the better.

Recently, gaming developers have believed it is okay to supply to us with an unfinished game and refer to the rest of the story as a DLC with a price tag nearly the same as the game. We need to stop giving them excuses and letting them get away with this. It’s not great, and really stinks.

A perfect example of an unfinished game is Destiny. Destiny being a mix of Halo and Call of Duty, was first released in September 2014 and involves shooting in space. (to put it simplistically) Being a fan of both, I thought Destiny would be right up my street, and it was. It’s pretty easy and very repetitive but it did the job. But what brings this game crashing back down, is that in order to finish  the story, you have to buy the other 3/4 at near enough £50 each.

It probably took me about 3 hours to complete the first bit of Destiny, which means i basically paid £35 to play an unfinished game and look at the DLC’s. The developers have obviously focussed on their income and not the finished product which really does show they did not put their heart and soul into the overall game. Plus they then had the cheek to release Destiny 2, which has the exact same format. I am fuming.

I hate not being able to finish a game, it really winds me up and makes me skin tingle, but I refuse to pay the same price for another half of gaming, which i should have got when it was first purchased, and there are many more games like this which are being released.

It is even getting to the point where in some games it appears as if you have the DLC or map or weapon etc, but then when you go to use it, you have to buy it.

As someone who heavily invests in the gaming industry, I do not believe it is fair that developers are taking advantage of their audience an i hope it doesn’t continue to be this way.

My rant is over!

The Tom Clancy game ‘Divison’ has this same problem but not to the same extent as Destiny! There are 3 huge levels you have to pay for!

Some publishers are often too keen on carving up their games for profit later down the road.
