It’s been a while since I have written a new addition to this series, but if you are new to Hopeless Blog, I moved out yay! Part of that journey of moving out is teaching me many many things, like how to remove spiders on your own without screaming,( still learning!)
My Simple series are just a few of the little things I have learnt on surviving adult hood written in the simplest of ways, and this time I have been redecorating!
When I first moved in my horrendous living room, had a bright orange wall which made selfies impossible, and just generally any form of lighting disgusting, so that deffo needed to go!
Painting a wall, believe it or not, is actually super FRIGGIN HARD. Oh no not just about putting paint on a brush, there are a gazillion types of brushes, rollers, paints. You have to find the right shade, UGH YAWWWN. This takes me onto my first tip for painting…
Picking the right shade:
When you first paint, you need to know the kind of colour scheme you are going for. I was choosing a yellow/grey theme for my flat so wanted a light lemony yellow for my wall.
You have to choose a colour from the range you want and get samples to try out at home, as also the colour of paint when it dries is very different to when it is wet!
When you get to the big day of painting, please please please put a rug or old sheet or something anything!!! on the floor. It’s absolutely crazy how far paint can travel across the room, it gets bloody everywhere its mad.
One of the worst and painful things about painting is cutting in. This is where you have to paint around things like the bordering or light switches, or in my case super awkward old shitty heaters…
Luckily I did have help to hand, but even so you need to buy tape to put around things like the border and light switches. I bought “frog” tape which is special tape that won’t peel off any paint underneath off and is easily removed, this helps give painting a neater touch. Or you could just get yourself a top quality friend to do it for you…
Finally the finished product tah daah, the photos not too good but the colour has made SUCH a difference!
I’m so happy and I got a new shelf put up and my mirror, it makes such a difference in the room!
Now I’m super eager to decorate more and get more done, do you know any good websites I can look at for ideas?
Lots of love,
Sophiemagsx
