Oh man, I frigging I love this time of year.
Alongside the many festivities and Christmas cheer, this time of year is the best as I am bombarded with gigs, and November did not disappoint.
For the latest issue in this series, I visited a small little arena at Bristol 02 Academy, otherwise known as my FAV arena. I say the term arena lightly as it is very small, but being a larger name, quite big bands can normally be found here and you get the sense of quite an intimate setting. I have visited the academy many a time and for this little gig I watched Bowling For Soup a punk rock band from back in the day.
Before we get into the band, I want to talk about the warm ups. The first one, Not Your Girlfriendz. They were an all female punk pop band and they were about 14 years old. It was weirdly good?? They were very entertaining, but they were very much your typical, girl band, and I couldn’t help but get the feeling they were only in a band together because it was made purely for money and fame. The whole thing just seemed quite false?? The second warm up were Patent Pending, who are another punk rock band, and they were mental. The jumping, clapping, stomping, moving around, it was like a little party. They were a bit over the top but it all added to the atmosphere of having a good time.
The Bowling for Soup tour itself was made as a “before Christmas tour” meaning it was very Christmas themed. There was a big turn on of Christmas lights, Christmas jumpers and of course covers of Christmas songs.
At most gigs, when a band performs they play three or four songs at a time and then chat, but BFS played one then stopped and chatted and then another one and so on, making it a very chilled out gig. The atmosphere was so calm and happy and the entire room was filled with people enjoying themselves and I loved it. They are that band that you didn’t realise you know their songs iygm?
This gig most defnately, built up the christmas mood ahead of December and it was the perfect setting.
What kick started your Christmas fever this year?
Lots of love,
