Goooood afternoon folks! These posts are flowing in thick and fast for my More than music series and I am loving it! Sharing these gigs with you are definitely one of my favourite things to blog about, not only so I can keep them and look back, but also to see if you enjoy similar music.
Sunset Sons are a band which have been in my music library for a while now. I remember first seeing them in 2014 at Boardmasters and they were on at midday for about half an hour. It was a beautiful day as we sat by the seaside bathing in the sun, listening to soothing indie tunes.
Since then I have seen them at Reading festival, at Bristol 02 academy and supporting Nothing But Thieves in Birmingham. Seeing them grow as band has given me a lot of happiness, almost like a proud parent! This time I saw them at The Thekla in Bristol, a popular place for the all the edgiest of indie Bristol teens. The Thekla is a boat which was pretty cool, and was such a nice sized arena.
This was for sure one of my favourite times I have seen the band live. There was so much energy and passion in the crowd, but it wasn’t too wild that you couldn’t enjoy yourself.
The band also appeared to be having a great time performing for us, coming into the crowd to sing. They handed out a video recorder for the crowd as they were making a tour video which was a cool idea so everyone was having a blast filming themselves.
I really enjoyed this gig. The whole evening was just super nice. The setlist was fantastic, the energy was overwhelming, and the band seemed really in touch with the emotions behind each song. There was a moment during the encore when they sang a very slow song, and you could feel the emotion it was incredible!
If you haven’t heard of Sunset Sons, I would 10/10 recommend them for the cooliest of indie tunes and also for the fact, performing live they are pretty sick.
My next gig isn’t until December now so a little hold off on these posts for now!
Lots of love,
