Happy New Year everyone!
The month of January is usually a dark and gloomy one. Everyone is broke and depressed from lack of celebrations post Christmas and New Year. However this January in particular has something to get excited about. Veganuary! This is something that has only really grown bigger in the last few years or so about the exploration of encouraging everyone to become vegan. Veganism in simple terms is about the practise of abstaining from using animal products, including bi products of animals such as milk from cows. This differs from being a vegetarian which is about not eating meat. Veganism is about not using products which have had an animal involved in the process at some point, meaning they are at harm.
Although I am not vegan, only vegetarian, I fully support it and try to be as vegan as possible, where applicable, so veganuary is VERY exciting. Research has shown that when there are wider options available for vegans and vegetarians, these are most likely to be chosen compared to the meat alternative which is FAB.
So in celebration of Veganuary, larger companies have jumped on board and have began releasing many products in support of this. Starting with KFC who as of January 2nd 2020 released their vegan burger. If you have eaten meat quite recently, you may not find this to be much to you, however to someone who hasn’t eaten meat in a while I thought it was delicious. The burger comes with lettuce and vegan mayo and is priced at £3.99 not including sides or as a meal (as this is not yet an option) but it tastes delicious. it is simple and is exactly what we want!
The second thing i tried out this month was the Subway meatless meatball sub! Oh my i was blown away! It was so flavoursome and the cheese wasnt gross vegan cheese! The meatballs were warm and juicy, the sauce had a little kick. With a drink and snack it came to just over £5.00 i am not complaining. Delicious!
The Vegan Steak Bake from Greggs, a few comments. ONE they did not roll this out to all stores, (TRIGGERED) I had to go all over the place to try and find it!! TWO its more expensive??? Why tho?? but generally point three, it was delicious! I really liked this nice and easy treat and i’m glad Greggs are jumping on the vegan train! I had to get this photo off google as I couldn’t take a very friendly photo of it but it was loooooveeeely!
Finally to finish off this tasty blog post, for our girls night we ventured to Frankie and Bennies to try out their vegan menu! i really hope they keep some of these items permanently because they tried really hard and i was super impressed! I had the vegan burger and my friend had the Vegan Hot dog! both presented very nicely and ofc Frankie and Bennies isn’t that expensive which is great!
That was just a sample of some of the new options as part of Veganuary, i really hope most places keep some of these items because they have all seemed really popular!
Have you ever tried veganism?
Lots of love
